Spring Term 1 - Week 1 - Friday 9th January 2026

Reading Challenge Tracker Reminder

We kindly remind all families to ensure that their child's Reading Challenge Trackers are completed daily, ready to be handed in each Friday for checking.

Taking part in the school Reading Challenge is a fundamental part of your child's learning journey here at Hordle. It gives us a chance to take a real interest in what your child is reading outside of school, to celebrate their reading achievements and to motivate them to keep going with their developing reading habits. More importantly, it helps to show children that reading isn't just for school - it's for fun, imagination and pleasure too!

Forming strong reading habits early can set your child up for life!

By working together, we can really help your children to thrive. Thank you for supporting the Reading Challenge.

Team Badger Charity Cake Sale -

Friday 16th January

Please join us at school pick up on Friday 16th January for Team Badger's Charity Cake Sale all in aid of their class charity, 'Born Free Foundation'. Please bring small change with you.

We look forward to seeing you there!

School Uniform Reminder

Children should wear the following school uniform ONLY:

• Dark grey classic trousers (no leggings), dark grey pinafore dress, dark grey skirt (with pleats), dark grey shorts (required);

• White blouse/shirt or polo shirt (required);

• Navy V neck sweatshirt with school logo (required);

• Navy gingham dress (Summer term only, optional);

• White or grey socks or tights (required);

• Black trainer-style school shoes or black shoes (required).

Children should wear the following PE kit ONLY:

• Hordle PE top (required);

• Hordle Hoodie (optional, alternatively plain navy or black warm PE top);

• Navy shorts/navy skort (required);

• Plain navy or black jogging trousers/leggings (required);

• Black trainers (required).

If your child has their ears pierced, we ask that earrings are either removed for PE or that parents/guardians supply their own earring tape. We do not provide tape as a school.

School uniform expectations

Please make sure your child arrives ready for the school day dressed in the full school uniform, unless it’s their PE day or they attend a Hub Sports Club - they should then be wearing their Hordle PE kit.

Please ensure all uniform and personal items such as coats, hats, etc are clearly named. Named items that become lost can be returned to their rightful owners and avoid the lost property bin!

Full details on school uniform expectations can be found on our website HERE.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

The Panto is Coming Back (Oh, Yes It Is!)

We are very excited to share that Team PATCH have very kindly organised for Year 1 - Year 6 to enjoy “Rick Whittington” the panto this Tuesday, 13th January. This event will be taking place during the school day.

For our FS and Hordle Explorers Nursery children, back by popular demand, Mr Bubbles will be coming in on the same day!

Both of these events are free and are fully funded by the amazing PATCH.

Thank you so much Team PATCH!

Nut Free School

Please can we remind parents that we are a strictly a nut and sesame free school. We have several children who have severe nut allergies so we ask that you respect this if your child brings a packed lunch from home or a snack for an after-school club. As a reminder, the following foods contain nuts/sesame and should not be included in children's lunch boxes.

• Battenburg

• Bakewell tarts

• Madeleines

• Hummus

• Peanut butter

• Chocolate hazelnut spread

• Many cereal bars

Pesto

Please note, that while pine nuts are not strictly a nut, we have noticed that many brands of pesto have started to include nuts as an ingredient. It is therefore impossible for us to know if the pesto in a child's packed lunch contains nuts or not. As a result, we are asking that you DO NOT include pesto in your child's packed lunch or snacks.

Hordle Hub Clubs and Booster Clubs

Please be reminded that all Hordle Hub Clubs, Booster Clubs and Instrumental Clubs will be running as usual from Monday 12th February - Friday 13th February inclusive.

Spring 2 clubs will run from Monday 23rd February - Friday 27th March.

***

If your child is due to attend Breakfast Club but will not be attending

If your child will not be attending their booked Breakfast Club session, please can we ask that you contact the school office at your soonest convenience to confirm the reason for absence. This is a safeguarding matter and must be adhered too.

***

Please note, bookings need to be paid in advance of the session taking place. You can book in advance, as far as the end of May 2026. These bookings do not need to be paid for at the time of booking but each session must be paid for before it takes place.

Year R Fancy Dress Donation Request

This half term the YR children are learning all about 'Traditional Tales' in our Once Upon a Time topic.

We kindly ask for any donations of costumes that would fit this theme, that older children have now outgrown or may have worn for previous World Book days, which you no longer need and would be happy to donate.

As well as full costumes, we would be happy for donations of individual items such as bear ears or red capes for example.

If you think that this may be something you are able to assist with, please email adminoffice@hordle.hants.sch.uk so we can track all incoming donations.

Thank you.
