Autumn Term 2 - Week Three - Friday 21st November 2025

Important Message from Hampshire Safeguarding Team

Do your children play Roblox? If so, the following communication has been sent to us from Hampshire County Council:

We have been made aware of a pop-up that is appearing on Roblox, encouraging children to download an app called pollybuzz (or pollyfuzz in some spelling cases). The app seems quite simple where children are asked questions, and it generates an Artificial Intelligence ‘friend’ – this starts off quite innocently but then begins to show extreme content (including suicide, self-harm and pornography). It may be helpful to remind children about not clicking on pop-ups in games and to report anything that is worrying or inappropriate to a trusted adult.

Roblox has parental controls and instructions of how to put these on can be accessed via this link:
Parental Controls Overview – Roblox Support .

Parental controls will stop some pop-ups, but not all, so appropriate supervision is still required.

We trust this information is useful in continuing to safeguard your children online.

Individual and Sibling Photos

We are delighted to share that all individual and sibling photos (which were ordered before the deadline of Sunday 9th November) have been delivered to school and will be coming home with your child today.

All photos will be coming home with the eldest sibling.

Christmas Lunch Payments

If you have opted for a cooked Christmas lunch on Wednesday 17th December, please can we kindly ask that you make payment if you have not done so already.

This will need to be paid via your child's Scopay account and can be found under 'products' in the bottom right corner.

Please note, this is applicable for those families who have opted for a cooked lunch, not packed lunch.

Christmas lunch slots have been emailed out to families today.

Dinners, Breakfast Club and Den Debt

Dinners, Breakfast Club and After School Club must be paid for in advance. If persistent debt runs up and/or balances are not cleared, we may have no option but to refuse provision of meals or wrap-around care.

Thank you for your support with this matter.

***

Paying via Scopay

Please follow these simple steps to make payment via your Scopay account:

♦ Open the Scopay App

♦ For families with multiple children in the nursery/school, please ensure you have the correct child selected at the top

♦ Enter payment amount under the relevant category e.g. Breakfast Club or After School Club and click ‘add to basket’

♦ Click on the basket icon at the top of the page

♦ Double check you have entered the correct amount and for the correct child and if happy, please click ‘checkout’

♦ Click ‘pay now’

♦ This will redirect you to the Hampshire County Council website where you can checkout as you normally would when online shopping

*

Paying via Tax Free Childcare (Breakfast and After School Club Only)

We also welcome families to make payments via Tax Free Childcare (TFC). If you are eligible, you will be provided with a unique Tax Free Childcare reference number. Please email your unique reference number to theden@hordleprimary.co.uk with the subject title “TFC reference”. This must be provided to us before you make any payments.

Please note, payments to us via the TFC scheme can take 5-10 working days to clear and to reach us so we kindly ask that payments are made in readiness for your session taking place.

*

Paying via Childcare Vouchers

Should you be in receipt of childcare vouchers, please confirm your Childcare voucher company to us in writing to theden@hordleprimary.co.uk and we will advise next steps.

***

Please note, for any bookings cancelled within a 24 hour period prior to the booking date, you will still be charged for the session.

***

If your child is not attending Breakfast Club of After School Club

We understand that changes happen so we kindly ask that if your child is booked to attend Breakfast Club and/or After School Club but is not attending for any reason, please can we ask parents to either call the school office, email admin.office@hordle.hants.sch.uk or inform reception at pick up. Thank you for supporting this important safeguarding matter.

'Be Bright, Be Seen' Campaign - Friday 28th November

Over winter, we run our 'Be Bright, Be Seen' campaign urging all children and road users to take more care while out on the roads in the dark. On Friday 28th November, the children are invited to wear one bright accessory to school. For example:

Bright socks

Bright hairband

Bright wristband

Bright badge

Bright hat

To confirm, this is not a mufti day but one accessory only. Full school uniform must be worn.

This is a free event.

Thank you From the Hordle Junior Road Safety Team.

What to do if your child is absent

Please can we remind parents/guardians of our schools absence procedures should your child be unwell:

♦ Contact us as soon as possible (and before 9.30am at the latest) on the first day of absence; telephone (via the schools absence line), email or visit the school office
♦ Advise us on the nature of your child’s absence. Please note that in the event of sickness and/or diarrhoea, the exclusion period is 48 hours since the last bout of illness
♦ Update the school daily on subsequent days absence unless advised otherwise.

If your child is absent and we have not heard from you by 9.30am at the latest, we will telephone you and any other contacts that have been provided to us to confirm your child’s whereabouts. This is because we have a safeguarding duty to ensure your child’s safety as well as their regular school attendance. A child not attending school is considered a safeguarding matter. This is why information about the cause of any absence is always required.

Please note, if no reason for absence is received before 12pm, it is a safeguarding requirement for us to visit the family home to ascertain your child’s wellbeing.

Please find guidance on exclusion periods for common illnesses HERE.

***

Medical/Dentist/Optician Appointments

Please be advised that moving forwards, due to safeguarding reasons, we now request proof of all medical (doctors/hospital), dental and opticians appointment, confirming appointment time and location. We will also be required to see evidence of appointments should you be taking your child out of school to attend an appointment for a sibling or parent.

Thank you for your understanding.

***

What to do if my child is late

If you think your child will be arriving late at school please can we remind parents/guardians of our school late arrival procedures:

♦ Contact us as soon as possible (and before 9.30am at the latest); telephone (via the schools absence line), email or visit the school office
♦ Advise us on the nature of your child’s late arrival and a choice of lunch for the day, please note lunch orders have to be placed by 9:30am for the kitchen to have enough preparation time
♦ Sign in at the front office at the time of arrival (registers in the classrooms are closed after 9am)

Parents are unable to escort their child to the classroom if they arrive once the gates are closed.

***

Holiday in Term Time?

Parents are strongly advised by the Government and Local Authority to avoid taking children out of school in term time because of the disruption it causes to their education.

We ask that if parents/guardians need to take children out of school, to please notify the school of all planned absences by completing an absence request form. Whilst your request may not be authorised, it will mean that we know not to worry about your child's welfare and they will not be treated as a missing child.

Please note, if your child has unauthorised absences for 10 sessions (1 day is 2 sessions) or more in a 100 session period, you will be liable to a fixed penalty notice and a fine.

More information can be found here on the Gov website.

If you have any queries, please speak to the school office.

We are pleased to announce this year's chosen class charities. Please ensure you save the relevant date for your child's charity event.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Christmas Mobiles Homework

It's that wonderful time of year where we ask families to prepare a Christmas mobile together, ready to be displayed in our hall for the festive period. We can't wait to see your creations and bring this Hordle tradition to life this year!

Using two hangers, joined and decorated with coloured tape or tinsel, we ask that you and your family create a beautiful Christmas mobile together. The one shown below is just an example, we are sure that you will have many wonderful and creative ideas.

Your finished mobile masterpiece must come in to school on the morning of Monday 1st December at 9am so that it is ready to be displayed in the hall for the start of advent. We are looking forward to a spectacular display in the hall again this year.

This is not a compulsory project but is a wonderful Hordle tradition for everyone! Have fun creating!

Please ensure all mobiles are labelled and clearly named so that they can be returned at the end of term.

Have fun, Team!
