Autumn Term 2 - Week One - Friday 7th November 2025

Smartphone Free Update

Following our continued intention to work towards smart-phone free childhoods, we would like to thank those of you who have taken your time to share your thoughts with us.

We have had some feedback with many of you expressing strong support for the initiative while others have raised thoughtful questions. We value all of this feedback and want to ensure that our final decisions are informed by the views of the school community and therefore we would like to hear from more of you.

We kindly ask all families to read THIS letter and complete the short questionnaire included within.

The deadline for completion is Friday 21st November.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.

In order to prepare for this event, please can we ask parents/guardians to complete the form on the link below with your suggested topics for discussion: Parent Forum Discussion Topics

Even if you cannot attend on the day but you wish for a particular subject to be discussed, please complete this form and give us as much information as possible.

Odd Sock Day - Wednesday 12th November

We're looking forward to taking part in Anti-Bullying Week 2025, which will take place next week, Monday 10th November - Friday 14th November.

Our whole-school theme this year is ‘Using Power for Good’ and we’ll be exploring how we can all make a difference by showing kindness, speaking up and supporting one another when things go wrong.

To mark the week, we’ll be holding our annual Odd Sock Day on Wednesday 12th November (later than usual due to the Lower Junior trip).
Odd Sock Day is a fun reminder that we are all unique and special, and that our differences should be celebrated. We recognise that not everyone feels comfortable wearing odd socks, so children are welcome to wear odd, matching, colourful, fluffy, special or silly socks – whatever makes them smile and showcases who they are!

Throughout the week, children will be learning about:
• The difference between bullying and unkindness
• How to speak up and speak out when things go wrong
• How even the smallest act of kindness can go a very long way

We can’t wait to see how our children use their power for good as they continue on their journeys towards living life in all its fullness.

'Cut Your Carbon' Campaign

Team Eco have been hard at work thinking of ways we can become even more eco-friendly both at school and in the community. As a result, we are very excited to introduce a new, whole school initiative for November called 'Cut Your Carbon'. Throughout November, we are challenging everyone at Team Hordle to complete THESE 6 simple carbon-cutting actions (also found below) at home with friends and family. These actions will reduce your everyday carbon emissions, help to save some money and benefit our beautiful planet.  ????

We kindly ask all families to complete THIS 30 second form by Sunday 30th November so that we can tally our carbon savings and enter our results to the Eco Schools programme in the hopes of winning a bespoke mural for the school!

Team Eco wish to thank you for your carbon cutting support!

Christmas Mobiles Homework

It's that wonderful time of year where we ask families to prepare a Christmas mobile together, ready to be displayed in our hall for the festive period. We can't wait to see your creations and bring this Hordle tradition to life this year!

Using two hangers, joined and decorated with coloured tape or tinsel, we ask that you and your family create a beautiful Christmas mobile together. The one shown below is just an example, we are sure that you will have many wonderful and creative ideas.

Your finished mobile masterpiece must come in to school on the morning of Monday 1st December at 9am so that it is ready to be displayed in the hall for the start of advent. We are looking forward to a spectacular display in the hall again this year.

This is not a compulsory project but is a wonderful Hordle tradition for everyone! Have fun creating!

Please ensure all mobiles are labelled and clearly named so that they can be returned at the end of term.

Have fun, Team!
