Spring Term 2 - Week Five - Friday 28th March 2025

Changes to Waste Collection at School - Important Update for Parents

Following changes in legislation on waste disposal, schools are now required to separate food waste in addition to recycling, from general waste.

With effect from Monday 31st March, children will be required to use separate recycling and food waste bins from general waste.

What this means for your child

Learning the new rules

Children will attend an assembly on food waste and will be reminded how they can identify recyclable items from general waste - this is something they are already actively encouraged to do. However, the rules on food waste will be new to our children. We will stress the importance of careful recycling and waste separation to reduce our environmental impact.

Please be aware that schools will be fined for incorrect waste disposal so it's very important that we are all adhering to the new rules.

Packed Lunches

As per current procedures, all children will be required to bring home any food waste and packaging from packed lunches, in their lunchboxes. Please note that children will be asked not to dispose of packed lunch waste in school as food bins are for school waste only.

These rules will soon come in to effect in homes too, so this is a good opportunity to start training for this!

Thank you for your support to ensure all children are following these new rules from Monday. We know our children and families will welcome this opportunity to reduce our environmental impact, as much as we do.

School Report Feedback

School reports for children in Years 1-6 were sent home last week.

We hope that you will enjoy reading these together with your child and celebrating their successes so far this year.

As always, we appreciate your feedback, if you would like to take the time to comment on your child’s report, please do so HERE.

Polite Reminder - Bikes/Scooters/Skateboards on School Grounds

Please can we kindly remind families that any bikes, scooters, skateboards or any other form of similar transport is not used/ridden on the school site.

All forms of transport should be dismounted before entering on to the school site and then walked up to the available bike storage (located at the Longfield Road/Team Nest), where they are to be stored neatly and safely or parents to take back home with them.

Thank you for keeping our school site safe, especially at school drop off and pick up.

Team Oak Cake Sale

We are delighted to share that Team Oak's cake sale last week raised a fantastic £95.10! The money raised will be donated to their class charity, MAF UK (Mission Aviation Fellowship). Well done, Team Oak!

Penalty Notice Guidance

Holiday in Term Time?

Parents are strongly advised by the Government and Local Authority to avoid taking children out of school in term time because of the disruption it causes to their education.

If your child has unauthorised absence(s) for 10 sessions (1 day is 2 sessions) or more in a 100 session period, you will liable to a fixed penalty notice and a fine. More information regarding the updated penalty notice legislation can be found here.

If you have any queries, please speak to the school office or email adminoffice@hordle.hants.sch.uk.

Arbor App - IMPORTANT

The Arbor Parent App allows you to update your child’s personal details from your mobile phone or tablet, ensuring that we always have your most up to date contact details. This is essential for the safeguarding of our children and we do require 100% sign up from parents of children in Year R to Year 6.

Using the app, you can also check your child’s attendance and we hope in future to introduce increased functionality.

For details on how to use and set up the app please click HERE

Earth Day - Tuesday 22nd April

Children are invited to attend school wearing earthy colours in aid of Earth Day, raising awareness for climate change.

We kindly ask families for a voluntary contribution of £1 to go towards new plants for the school grounds.
