Spring Term 2 - Week One - Friday 28th February 2025

Annual Hordle Spring clean and tidy up - 15th March 2025

As school budgets continue to be extremely tight, we look to our wonderful school community to assist where possible. We would like to invite parents back to the school for our Annual Spring Clean on Saturday 15th March between 10am - 1pm.

This event has been hugely successful in the past, with the school sparkling after just a few hours of labour from willing volunteers! Jobs that we need help with include washing down walls, tables and chairs and generally making the school sparkle.
We will be hugely grateful if you could spare some time to help that day. We will provide all the tools and supplies and will even have Miss Trim on hand to make our wonderful volunteers bacon sandwiches, tea and coffee and home baked cakes!

Please note that for Health & Safety reasons we are unable to have any children on site during this Spring clean.

Please let us know if you can come and help by completing this form.

Thank you for helping us love our school.

World Book Day - Friday 7th March

World Book Day Fancy Dress

As a reminder, we will be celebrating World Book Day on Friday 7th March. There is no set theme this year, children are invited to attend school dressed as their favourite character from any fictional or non fictional book or simply in their own clothes. More information can be found on the parent letter, sent on Friday 7th February, here.

Please remember that costumes do not need to be expensive and can be created at home using what you already have. Please find some 'dressing up' ideas/solutions from World Book Day here.

Book in a Box

To create a sense of curiosity about books, we are asking families to work together on a creative family project. This year, we will be running a competition for a 'Book in a Box'. The idea is to take your favourite story and use your artistic skills to represent the story and character(s) in a box.

Please email a photograph of your entry to your child's class teacher and bring your 'Book in a Box' in to school on Thursday 6th March.

We are asking for one 'Book in a Box' per family, so there is no need to make more than one (unless you want to!).

Here are some amazing efforts from a previous year for inspiration. Can you guess the books?

Book Tokens

The World Book Day book tokens have now been distributed to classes and have been sent home with children. As a reminder, this year, book tokens can be redeemed at the following retailers:

Tesco, New Milton

Waterstones, Lymington

Sainsbury's, Christchurch

The Works, Chirstchurch

Bookends Book Shop and Art Centre, Christchurch

HEN Cake Sale - Friday 7th March

Hordle Explorers (Team Nest and Team Wild) will be holding their class charity cake sale next Friday, 7th March, raising money for Elsie's Rose (a charity supporting bereaved parents whose children are receiving end of life care and in the months after to grieve).

They will have a table based by the School Hall and at the back gate (Longfield Road).

Please remember to bring your change!

'Spring in to action' Walk to School Week -   Monday 3rd March - Friday 7th March

Next week, we will be taking part in 'Spring in to action'. This is an event running on the 3rd of March for a week. The theme of this years event is weather- allowing us to connect with nature and the world around us. There will be activity cards coming round to complete, containing all sorts of things to do.

Once completed, please return all completed activity cards to the JRSO's or Mrs James. All returned cards will be entered into a random prize draw to win some of the 'My Journey' gifts! (Pens, keyrings, water bottles, etc.)

Hordle Hub Club Survey Results

Following feedback from parents, we can now confirm that the parent survey shows that 5pm is the most popular time for club bookings to go live. This will be in effect from Summer Term.

Thank you to all parents/guardians who took the time to vote and help us make a decision to best support our families.

Spare Uniform Plea

We are running extremely low with spare school uniform across the school due to borrowed items not being returned. If your child may have had to borrow any of the schools spare uniform, please can we ask that this is returned to school at your soonest convenience. Alternatively, if you have any old uniform (or underwear) which is still in good condition and no longer fits, we would welcome donations to all phases.

Kitchen Menu Update

To celebrate Pancake Day next week, in addition to the usual desserts on offer, the kitchen team will be putting together a pancake station.

Children will have the option of a pancake for pudding, with various toppings available such as banana, honey, lemon or sugar. Yum, yum!

Hordle Hub Collection Update

Now that evenings are lighter again, children are allowed to walk home from Hordle Hub clubs without adult supervision, if this has been indicated on your child's pick up protocol. If this needs updating, please come to the school reception to pick up a form for completion.

Monday 24th February - First Day of Spring 2

Friday 21st March - INSET Day

Friday 4th April - Last Day of Spring 2

Parents are strongly advised by the Government and Local Authority to avoid taking children out of school in term time because of the disruption it causes to their education.

Following the update to the Penalty Notice Framework, Miss Trim has kindly put together a helpful leaflet to outline the important changes and how the penalty notice system will work. The leaflet can be found here.
