Autumn Term 1 - Week 5 - Friday 2nd October 2026

Individual and Sibling Photographs -

Thursday 8th October

We are pleased to say that Cardwell & Simons will be returning this year, to take our school photos. Please see the following information about the photo day:

Breakfast Club

Will take place in the following locations:

Nursery Children - HEN Classroom

YR - Y6 Children - Please enter via the Badger Set door

***

Uniform

If your child/ren have P.E, have an after school sports club or any other P.E related activities on Thursday 8th October, please send your child/ren in to school wearing their full school uniform, with their P.E kit ready to change into (in a clearly named bag).

Please note, children should be wearing their jumpers, not hoodies.

***

Photo Proofs

All proofs will be sent home shortly after. Second parent copies can be requested via the school office (please look out for an email, should this apply to you).

***

Absence

If your child is unfortunately poorly on the photo day, a catch up session for individual portraits will take place on Wednesday 21st October.

***

Sibling Photographs

If your children all attend Hordle Primary School (this does NOT include children who attend the Nursery settings), they will be photographed together throughout the day.

If your child has a sibling who does not attend Hordle Primary School, family pictures will begin at 8:10am. We ask that you arrive promptly if you wish for your children to be photographed together. Please enter via the main school gates, where you will be directed into the hall. Please ensure you are in the queue by 8:30am at the latest. Parents are responsible for their children until they are dropped to class at 8:45am.

If your child has a sibling who attends Hordle Explorers Nursery and you would like them photographed together, please come to the school hall for 8:10am.

Please note, if you have HEN and School siblings in Breakfast Club, you can still drop off as usual - they will be photographed together.

Polite Reminder - Bikes/Scooters/Skateboards on School Grounds

Please can we kindly remind families that any bikes, scooters, skateboards or any other form of similar transport is not used/ridden on the school site.

All forms of transport should be dismounted before entering on to the school site and then walked up to the available bike storage (located at the Longfield Road/Team Nest), where they are to be stored neatly and safely or parents to take back home with them.

Please do not leave bikes/scooters/other transport methods at the front of school, in the driveway or in flowerbeds.

Thank you for keeping our school site safe, especially at school drop off and pick up.

Polite Reminder - Flower Beds

Please be reminded that children should be supervised at the entrance to school in the mornings and afternoons and must not walk on the flower beds, pull branches off bushes, keep off the gravel or cause any other damage.

Sadly, we have received reports of children (and grown ups!) walking in flower beds, causing damage to the bushes and plants.

Thank you for supporting the school to ensure our grounds remain tidy and well cared for.

Save the Date - Class Charity Events 26/27

We are delighted to share our chosen class charities for 2026/27. Please ensure you save the relevant dates below to help support your child's class charity.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.

Road Closure Notice - Woodcock Lane - Thursday 8th October

Please be advised, as per recent communications from Hampshire County Council, Woodcock Lane will be closed for maintenance starting on Thursday 8th October. These works are planned for 1 day but please be mindful that there may be delays and may remain closed for longer.

Please ensure you leave in extra time for school drop off/pick up to allow for traffic and parking.

Children's Absence/Holiday

What to do if your child is absent

Please can we kindly remind parents/guardians of our schools absence procedures:

• Contact us as soon as possible (and before 9:30am at the latest) on the first day of absence; telephone (via the schools absence line), email or visit the school office
• Advise us on the nature of your child’s absence. Please note that in the event of sickness and/or diarrhoea, the exclusion period is 48 hours since the last bout of illness
• Update the school daily on each subsequent day(s) absence unless advised otherwise.

If your child is absent and we have not heard from you by 9:30am at the latest, we will telephone you and any other contacts that have been provided to us to confirm your child’s whereabouts. This is because we have a safeguarding duty to ensure your child’s safety as well as their regular school attendance.

A child not attending school is considered a safeguarding matter. This is why information about the cause of any absence is always required.

Please note, if no reason for absence is received before 12:00pm, it is a safeguarding requirement for us to visit the family home to ascertain your child’s wellbeing.

***
What to do if my child is late

If you think your child will be arriving late at school, including for any reason such as dentist or medical appointments, please can we remind parents/guardians of our school late arrival procedures:

- Contact us as soon as possible (and before 9:30am at the latest); telephone (via the schools absence line), email or visit the school office
- Advise us on the nature of your child’s late arrival and a choice of lunch for the day (please note, cooked lunch orders have to be placed by 9:30am for the kitchen to have enough preparation time)
- Sign in at the front office at the time of arrival (registers in the classrooms are closed after 9:00am)
- Parents are unable to escort their child to the classroom if they arrive once the gates are closed.

Holiday in Term Time?

Parents are strongly advised by the Government and Local Authority to avoid taking children out of school in term time because of the disruption it causes to their education.

We ask that if parents/guardians need to take children out of school, to please notify the school of all planned absences by completing an absence request form. Whilst your request may not be authorised, it will mean that we know not to worry about your child's welfare and they will not be treated as a missing child.

Please note, if your child has unauthorised absences for 10 sessions (1 day is 2 sessions) or more in a 100 session period, you will be liable to a fixed penalty notice and a fine.

More information can be found HERE in our Useful Parent Absence and Penalty Notice Guidance or HERE on the Gov website.

If your child will not be attending a booked Hub Club or Den Booking

We understand that plans can change last minute. If this is the case but your child is meant to be attending a Hub Club or Den, please ensure you inform the office that they will not be attending. You can do this by either visiting the reception, calling us on 01425 611657 or emailing adminoffice@hordle.hants.sch.uk.

If we have a child unaccounted for at the end of the day, we will start procedures as per our Missing Child Policy, which may result in us making a 999 call and reporting the child missing and providing all personal details of the pupil concerned. We will continue to carry out all other missing child procedures as per our policy, in addition to the above, which includes sweeps of school, local area and all known contacts and possible friendships.

For this reason, and in order that we do not unnecessarily waste police time, it is absolutely VITAL that you also tell us if there is a change in pick up procedures or if your child is not going to attend a club that they would usually be expected to attend.

If you have any queries, please speak to the school office.

Let's get moving this Walktober!

Get moving for our wellbeing, our community and our planet.

As we head into autumn, it’s important to stay active and spend time outdoors whenever possible. To encourage this, Hampshire County Council’s Travel Planning Team is inviting schools to take part in Walktober 2026 as part of International Walk to School Month.

We hope as many of our pupils, families and staff as possible will take part by walking, wheeling, cycling, scooting, using Park and Stride or travelling by public transport for journeys to and from school, work and for other journeys too.

Walktober is a challenge held each October to celebrate International Walk to School Month. We will be encouraging all our children in school and nursery to get moving by walking, wheeling and choosing other active and sustainable ways to travel throughout the month.

Please also keep your eyes peeled for Basil the bird who may be making some guest appearances throughout!

Sora - A Virtual Library for Families

Hordle CE VA Primary is pleased to inform you that all pupils have access to Sora,
a virtual library where they can borrow eBooks, audiobooks, comics and
magazines to read and listen to at home or at school.
It is a great resource and provides another way for the children to access books to
read. Research has shown that reluctant readers find eBooks an attractive format
to use.

Further information can be found HERE.

We also currently have spaces available in Year 3 - Year 6. If you know of anyone who would be interested in attending, please ask them to contact us using the details above.

Please help us by sharing our school tour dates with friends and family in the local area.

Many thanks in advance.
