Spring Term 1 - Week Three - Friday 24th January 2025

Important Notice from Miss Trim

Dear All,

The school has this week received a complaint from a member of the community to say that driving near the school grounds is becoming increasingly reckless and putting the lives of local residents at risk.

I would like to therefore take this moment to remind you all of the importance of sticking to the speed limits in and around the school, for driving with caution, particularly at busy times and making sure you do not park on the zig zags at any time of day.

Thank you for doing all you can to keep both yourselves and our wider community safe.

Miss Trim

Christmas Tree Decoration Collection

All Christmas tree decorations are now in two green crates outside the school office/hall. Please can we ask that families collect their decorations at their soonest convenience.

Everton Road Closure

Please be aware that due to the ongoing roadwork, Everton Road will remain closed for a further week.

Menu Swap - Thursday 30th January

Please be aware that there will be a menu change on Thursday next week, 30th January.

Instead of Roast Chicken, the blue option will be Roast Turkey.

All other menu choices remain the same.

Breakfast and After School Club

Bookings at The Den

Please can we ask parents to ensure they have booked any sessions required at Breakfast and/or After School Club for this term as we have had a few children arriving to both clubs since the start of term, who we have not been expecting to attend. Bookings are available via the calendar on your child's Scopay account.

This is very important as we have days where the clubs are full and we may not be able to accommodate. Please regularly check the bookings you have made on Scopay and make any changes in plenty of time to avoid incurring unnecessary charges.

Please can we also remind parents that sessions should be paid for in advance of taking place - we are seeing a real increase in the number of outstanding payments, and the amount of follow up we are having to carry out, which is becoming very difficult for the office team to manage.

Please help us to ensure the smooth running of clubs.

Support with childcare costs

If your child regularly attends The Den Breakfast and/or After School Club and you have not already signed up to the Tax Free Childcare Scheme, we would encourage you to check your eligibility to join. For every £8 you add to the account, the government will top up with £2 so it is well worth doing if your child regularly attends these clubs.

Your eligibility depends on whether you are working, your income (and that of your partner), your child's age and circumstances.

For further information on this scheme, how to check your eligibility and to set up an account please visit https://www.gov.uk/tax-free-childcare

If eligible, you will be provided with a unique Tax Free Childcare reference number. This must be provided to us before you make any payments to Hordle Primary School via this account. Please email your unique reference number to theden@hordleprimary.co.uk with the subject title 'TFC reference'.

Any payments via this scheme should be communicated to the team as they are submitted so that we know to expect your payment.

Tax Free Childcare payments are accepted for sessions at Breakfast Club and After School Club, as well as to cover nursery fees at Hordle Explorers Nursery. Each child attending must have their own account and separate TFC reference number, these cannot be shared.

Please note that TFC payments are not accepted for Hordle Hub Clubs.

*****

If you have any questions or concerns regarding anything to do with Breakfast and After School Club, please email theden@hordleprimary.co.uk and a member of the team will contact you.

OUR SCHOOL NEEDS YOU!

PATCH Volunteer Information Event:

Friday 31st January 2025

Our current PATCH team has worked tirelessly to fundraise for wonderful additions to our school in recent years and we are extremely grateful for all their hard work.

Sadly, next year, 3 of our key PATCH members will be leaving Hordle, as their children move on to secondary school. This leaves us with a huge hole and with growing pressure on school budgets, sadly, without the funds raised by our highly valued PATCH team and the events they run, the school simply won't be able to afford the wonderful enhancements provided for our school.

We will therefore be holding a PATCH volunteer information event on Friday 31st January 2025, which we wish to invite you to (please complete this form to confirm your attendance).

We simply won't be able to offer the range of events that the PATCH team have introduced to the school over the years and that the years and that the children (and parents!) look forward to every year.

You do not have to commit to helping with every single event, you can nominate yourself for a single event or task throughout the year - the more hands the merrier and all of your help, no matter how much time you can commit to will be greatly appreciated.

If you can give a little bit of your time to help the school by joining/supporting the PATCH team, please get in touch with Mrs Collins in the school office to find out more or sign up to our PATCH volunteer information event which will be taking place on Friday 31st January 2025 at 9am.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Calling all young brass, woodwind and percussion musicians!

Following the huge success of Spy Chase, Christchurch Music Centre are doing another massed performance this term with a different piece.

This is an opportunity for any of our children (or their siblings) who play brass, percussion (you need to be able to read music) and woodwind (including recorders), to perform and be a part of the concert.

There will be a morning rehearsal on the day of the concert from 9.30-10am, if you are able to attend, or alternatively families are welcome to just come for the concert.

To confirm, this is open to any child who is currently learning a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument to ANY standard (even if it is just 5 notes). Captain Risktaker would love you to participate.

Please can any families interested in taking part email Cheri Wallace (cheri.wallace@hms.hants.gov.uk) for the music and backing track.

For those wishing to attend as spectators, there are no need for tickets for the concert, and it is a free event.

If any children do participate in the concert, please feel free to send us any photos of your performances so we can share your fantastic achievement!

Parent Forum Reminder

We will be running a Parent Forum on Tuesday 28th January at 9am in the Acorn Room. This is an opportunity to express your views/make suggestions for our Senior Leadership Team on any matters relating to school. This could include (but is not limited to) curriculum, school activities, uniform, trips and school events.

We would love to see as many of you there as possible. In order to prepare for this event, please complete the form on the link below with your suggested topics for discussion:

Parent Forum discussion topics

Please can we ask that questions posed for discussion at the Parent Form are broad in nature and not specifically related to your child. . These questions are best answered by your child's class teacher who will be happy to discuss them at a mutually convenient time. Please email them directly in the first instance.

Even if you cannot attend on the day but you wish for a particular subject to be discussed, please complete this form and give us as much information as possible.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Hub Club Price Increase

Please be advised that as agreed by governors in July 2024, the Hordle Hub Club rates, for all internal clubs run by the school, will be increasing from £3.50 per week to £4 per week from 1st April 2025.

Breakfast Club and After School Club rates will be staying the same and will be reviewed again by Governors in April 2025. We will advise of any changes in due course, should there be any.

Important Information - Year 6 SAT's Dates

Please note that the Year 6 SAT's week will be

Monday 12th May - Friday 16th May 2025.

Please be aware that NO child can be taken out of school during a period of statutory testing. Unauthorised absence in these weeks is subject to an immediate fixed term penalty regardless of length.

Please therefore note the above dates in your diaries, where it is essential your child is in school.

Thank you for your cooperation.

We would like to remind parents/guardians of the term dates for the next couple of months.

Friday 14th February - Last Day of Spring 1

-

Monday 24th February - First Day of Spring 2

Parents are strongly advised by the Government and Local Authority to avoid taking children out of school in term time because of the disruption it causes to their education.

Following the update to the Penalty Notice Framework, Miss Trim has kindly put together a helpful leaflet to outline the important changes and how the penalty notice system will work. The leaflet can be found here.
